AI companies are nimbly working towards developing real-life use cases opening ever new frontiers
That’s true and sounds strangely pleasant in view of what jilted lovers are doing with their live-in partners. AI can bring back dead ones and we are not talking about pseudoscience or occult practices, not even an altruistic revenge seeking technology. It is possible to build a personality of a human being with the help of their digital footprints. Had you watched the Korean documentary movie “Meeting You”, it would have been pretty much clear how AI can create a digital replica of a dead person and the possibilities or rather the impossibilities of meeting them as it happens in the real world. In its true sense, it has not yet reached two-way immortality as the AI persona is designed to satiate the cravings of a real-life person is way behind in behaving like a real one. The concept of AI powered digital personalities has long been depicted in Hollywood movies and as the saying goes “Everything you imagine is real”, AI industry has been tinkering with the idea of creating conscious digital personalities for a long and a lot is left to work around only because our elders didn’t have digital interactions. But researchers are sure, it would be possible in the coming few decades as millennials would be generating enough digital footprint for themselves.
Digital Immortality and Artificial Intelligence
When Eugenia Kudya, in 2015 created a Ghostbot Luka, a digital representation of her dead friend, it grabbed headlines. She could make it by feeding a neural network with all the messages he shared with his friends and family, using Google’s open-source machine-learning framework, TensorFlow. As acknowledged by Kudya, though the bot was not precise or polished, its conversation had an uncanny resemblance to that of her friend’s. After Luka, there have been efforts in AI to resurrect the dead via digital personalities. Artificial intelligence came a long way in adapting ever new technologies such as deep learning techniques, artificial neural networks with the ability to imitate the human brain, and deep neural networks with layers of abstraction they can process have made exploring impossible options. The Chinese Brain Programme launched in 2018 is aimed at targeting the neural basis of cognitive functions and AI-driven computer simulation. LIFENAUT a US-based company helps people upload data from different sources to create a digital copy of their mind. The experiment is meant to test if the digital mind gains consciousness equivalent to that of a real brain.
Is Digital Immortality All About Living After Death?
While ethicists and morality watchkeepers keep arguing if we need ‘Digital personalities’ at all, AI companies are nimbly working towards developing real-life use cases around the surreal concept. Consider genuine cases of a lawyer offering consulting services or politicians and celebrities outsourcing their services with the digital avatar. Enter the world of Metaverse, it is already brimming with infinite opportunities to engage with virtual avatars and digital personality will only open doors to whole new business ventures. Instead of asking Siri or Alexa for information, a real-life scientist, counselor or advisor can be summoned. Going a step further, the Californian-based startup Eternime develops an intelligent avatar that looks like the person, reminiscent of the “Be Right Back” episode from the British show Black Mirror, where the protagonist gets a real-life talking avatar of her dead husband.
The Ethics of Virtual Afterlife:
As of now, digital immortality hasn’t found its footing as the main-stream technology, because of the variety of technical impediments it has. But the story doesn’t end there. As Kudya says, the problem with creating a digital version of people lies in the fact that human personality is inherently complicated. “We’re extremely different when we talk to different people. We’re basically like twenty thousand personalities at once”, she says. Researchers say a technology that is the sum total of past information shouldn’t let determine a person’s relationship with the dead, not particularly when it has the capacity to gain dominance over the human. Certainly, there is a dire need for framing an ethical framework to monitor the burgeoning afterlife industry.

Adobe Enables Contributors To Earn Royalties For AI-Generated Content
Adobe Stock specifies new standards for generative AI-generated material, enhancing human creativity
In order to increase how users can improve their creative endeavors, Adobe Stock, a global marketplace with more than 320 million creative assets, has established new rules for submissions of graphics made with generative AI. Early developments in generative AI have led to concerns regarding its right use. Adobe has given these issues careful thought, and they have created a new submissions policy that, in our opinion, will guarantee that both authors and users of their material utilize AI technology responsibly. In order to produce visuals more quickly by employing words, sketches, and motions, generative AI uses the extraordinary potential of machine learning. This represents a significant advance for creators. Contributors to Adobe Stock are leveraging AI techniques and technologies to expand their creativity, diversify their portfolios, and boost their earning potential.
These submissions must now adhere to the rules for AI-generated material, particularly the need that contributors to designate such entries. “There is a proper technique to integrate generative AI. I think Adobe can execute it properly given its size. Whoever implements it earliest and how responsibly businesses connect their communities with these technologies will win, in my opinion,” said Alex Q. Although some legitimate concerns have been raised about early generative AI technologies, Adobe is dedicated to leading the evolution of this technology into tools that support artists while never attempting to replace their creative faculties. In the right hands, generative AI can be an effective tool to boost creativity, expediting the creative process to the advantage of both users of digital goods and the contributory community who create those materials.
Additionally, Adobe is still making investments in innovations related to attribution, such as digital provenance technology created by the Adobe-led Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI). With more than 800 members, the CAI is expanding beyond merely Adobe products to enable credit for authors and provide openness about the details and sources of digital content. The generative AI policy gives artists control over these tools by allowing them to receive royalties for AI-generated content in accordance with Adobe’s licensing policies, just like they do for other content.
“I’m a believer in AI and I’m here for how AI will affect the future of Art,” Madison B said in her response. Some apps have significantly improved since I initially used them, and I’m interested to see how businesses like Adobe will incorporate generative AI into their creative tools.
To make sure that new assets satisfy consumer demands, Adobe Stock regulates AI-generated content according to the same guidelines we follow for other submitted content. In the unlikely event that a claim is made over an asset, conventional IP indemnity is included, and releases are still needed for identifiable people and property. Additionally, without sufficient consent, contributions based on third-party content are prohibited by our generative AI policy. This includes word prompts that relate to persons, places, things, or an artist’s aesthetic. The same license conditions apply to AI-generated content as they do to content from other sources. By the guideline, creators of generative AI content are required to proactively name it; further capabilities to increase transparency will shortly be added by Adobe. We think generative AI deserves a spot in our Stock collection when it is appropriately employed and labeled to create valuable and appealing content, ensuring that clients are aware of the provenance of the assets they are choosing.

Now you can take selfies with the help of AI with Lensa
If your Instagram is awash in algorithmically generated portraits of your friends, you aren’t alone. After adding a new avatar generation tool based on Stable Diffusion, the photo editing app Lensa AI went viral over the last few days, with users sharing their uncanny AI-crafted avatars (and the horrible misfires) in stories and posts.
Lensa’s fun, eminently shareable avatars mark the first time many people have interacted with a generative AI tool. In Lisa’s case, it’s also the first time they’ve paid for computer-generated art.
Stable Diffusion is free, and many people are playing around with it for research or fun. But Lensa and other services like it — Avatar AI and Profilepicture.AI, to name a few — are making money by selling the computing cycles required to run the prompts and spit out a set of images. That certainly changes the equation a little.
Lensa is built on Stable Diffusion’s free, open-source image generator but acts as a middleman. Send Lensa 10-20 selfies and $7.99 ($3.99 if you sign up for a free trial), and the app does the heavy lifting for you behind the scenes, handing back a set of stylized portraits in an array of styles like sci-fi, fantasy, and anime. Anyone with sufficient processing power can install Stable Diffusion on a machine, download some models and get similar results. Still, Lensa’s avatars are impressive and Instagram-ready enough that droves of people are more than happy to pay for the convenience.
While the tech world has celebrated the advancements of AI image and text generators this year — and artists have watched the proceedings warily — your average Instagram user probably hasn’t struck up a philosophical conversation with ChatGPT or fed DALL-E absurdist prompts. That also means that most people haven’t grappled with the ethical implications of free, readily available AI tools like Stable Diffusion and how they’re poised to change entire industries — if we let them.
Stable Diffusion, the AI image generator that powers Lensa, was originally trained on 2.3 billion captioned images — a massive cross-section of the visual internet. Swept up in all that stuff, including watermarked images, copyrighted works, and a huge swath of pictures from Pinterest. Those images also include many thousands of photos pulled from Smugmug and Flickr, illustrations from DeviantArt and ArtStation, and stock images from sites like Getty and Shutterstock.
