THE NUCOR FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

For humanitarian and educational reasons, including the provision of scholarship funds to eligible men and women, Nucor Foundation was founded as a non-profit corporation. The Foundation holds the view that the nation’s continued economic and social development depends on the training of its people. Scholarships are given out as a means of promoting community, national, and personal growth. Suppliers of steel products, Nucor and its affiliates have plants mostly in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

The Nucor Foundation scholarships’ goal is to assist qualified applicants in covering the cost of their undergraduate or vocational education.

ELIGIBILITY

The Nucor Foundation Scholarship is open to anyone who is a “qualifying” Nucor employee’s biological, adoptive, or stepchild. An employee is “qualified” if they satisfy the following criteria: has worked at Nucor full-time and actively for a minimum of six months as of the scholarship application date.

Must not be a “disqualified person” as that term is defined in Internal Revenue Code section 4946(a) with regard to the Foundation (i.e., certain persons affiliated with the Foundation or with substantial contributions to the Foundation).

The natural, adopted, or stepchild of a Nucor employee who passed away or became totally and permanently incapacitated while working at Nucor may also be qualified for a Nucor Foundation Scholarship. Descendants of the deceased member may earn up to twice the present scholarship maximum amount in the uncommon event of workplace death.

WHO WILL CHOOSE THE CANDIDATES?

A scholarship selection panel will examine scholarship applications. There will be three people on the committee. These individuals will not be connected in any way to any scholarship application and will come from the sectors of education, finance, or the professions. Additionally, it should be mentioned that none of the committee’s members will be officers, directors, or staff members of the Nucor Foundation or Nucor.

HOW WILL THE SELECTION PANEL DETERMINE WHO SHOULD RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP?

Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicant’s personal experience, academic prowess, leadership qualities, moral character, and facts on financial need. Scholarships will be given out regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, political views, or national origin.

The percentage of qualified applicants who receive Nucor Foundation Scholarships in any one year cannot be greater than 25%. The Educational Disbursement, which is taxable money for the student, will be available to the other 75% of applicants.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

WHAT DURATION DO THE SCHOLARSHIPS LAST?

All grants will be granted for a term of four years, or for a shorter time than is typically needed to finish the courses in which the recipient is enrolled. The scholarship recipient must complete the course of study in eight (8) years. Additionally, parents of recipients who get the Educational Disbursement must continue to work for Nucor in order for their kids to earn any additional cash.

WHAT VALUE DO THE SCHOLARSHIPS HAVE?

The sum of Three thousand five hundred dollars ($3,500) is the annual award amount at the moment. (Increased 2018–19 academic year.)

WHAT ARE POSSIBLE USES FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS?

Scholarship funding may only be applied to undergraduate recipients’ real out-of-pocket costs for the following items:

[a] tuition; [b] fees; [c] books and supplies [d] lodging and board (in that order).

Direct payments shall be made to the school.

HOW ARE THE SCHOLARSHIPS GOING TO BE MANAGED?

To examine and approve future payments for first-year students (or those who are using the money for the first time), the Foundation needs a copy of their first semester record that shows their GPA. When payment requests are made from the college they are presently attending in each term or year, transcripts must be submitted through the student website. If this condition is not met, students may wait longer to receive future grants.

WHAT KIND OF ACADEMIC RECORD OUGHT THE STUDENT TO KEEP?

A student must keep a 2.0-grade point average and adhere to all rules and regulations set forth by the school they are enrolled in order to be in good standing. Before money for that term is paid to the school by students who are on probation, they must successfully finish their probationary period. Scholarship winners must register as full-time students in the fall of the scholarship-giving year unless an exception is made.

A beneficiary may be given a leave of absence if there is a valid reason. If a student misses one or more terms of school or withdraws during a term, they must write the Foundation to request readmission into the scholarship program. Any withdrawal, regardless of the cause, must be recorded with the Foundation.

WHERE CAN THE STUDENT USE THE GRANT?

Any qualifying, accredited university, vocational school, or trade school may be attended by the scholarship recipient. It should be noted that the Foundation Scholarship does not provide money for most online courses or correspondence institutions. The prize may be transferred from one university to another, but the winner must update their college information on the student website, which may be accessed at www.nucorfoundation.com. The institution’s name, postal address, and contact information for financial aid should all be included in this update.
