The Gates Cambridge Scholarship For International Students
The Gates Foundation gave the University of Cambridge US$210 million in October 2000, creating the Gates Cambridge Trust. This continues to be the single-largest gift to a UK university.
All facets of the Gates Cambridge Scholarship program are managed by the Trust. It has a Board of 10 eminent Trustees that meets twice a year to deliberate on the program’s overall strategic direction. Two of the Trustees were appointed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, while the remaining eight were chosen by the University. The Provost (CEO) oversees all operational facets of the Trust’s work with the assistance of a Director of Finance, a Programme Director, and a small administrative team.
About The Scholarship
With a $210 million gift, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation started the Gates Cambridge Scholarships in 2000 to help deserving graduate students attend the University of Cambridge.
The scholarship is one of the most renowned and competitive in the world, with awards going to about 1.3% of applications in recent years.
The donation is the largest ever made to a British university, and it supports the most esteemed postgraduate program at the institution.
Each scholarship involves money for both academic and professional growth in addition to covering the cost of a postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge. More than 200 Gates Cambridge Scholars are now enrolled in academic programs, and more than 2000 students from more than 110 countries have earned the scholarship.
One of the most prominent international scholarships in the world is the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. Outstanding candidates from outside the UK are given scholarships to attend the University of Cambridge full-time for a postgraduate degree in any field that is offered.
Each class of Gates Cambridge Scholars is typically made up of two PhD students and three one-year scholars. The Gates Cambridge Trust chooses its scholars using a three-stage process. During the U.S. or the global round, prospective students must submit an application to study for an eligible degree at the University of Cambridge. Following the first application, qualified candidates for the scholarship are ranked and recommended by each academic department at the University of Cambridge. The best candidates for postgraduate studies in the department are called departmental nominees. The Gates Cambridge Trust divides the list of departmental nominees into broad subject categories before sending it to the shortlisting committees.

The Oxford’s “Clarendon” Scholarship Program
Clarendon provides outstanding graduate students with over 200 brand-new, fully-funded scholarships each year in addition to the chance to be a part of one of Oxford’s most vibrant, culturally diverse, and interdisciplinary communities.
The University, its faculties, divisions, and colleges make up the autonomous, self-governing organization known as Oxford.
The schools and residences
The University’s 36 schools and three societies make up its core, and they are connected to it through a federal system.
Each college is independent and self-governing, and each one has a charter that has been authorized by the Privy Council. As a result, each college is run by a Head of the House who is chosen and elected by the governing body itself. The majority of the Fellows on the governing body are also employed by universities.
The three societies—Kellogg College, Reuben College, and St. Cross College—operate very similarly to the other colleges, but they are regarded as departments of the university rather than separate colleges because, unlike the others, they lack a royal charter. One of the primary variations is that the president is nominated by the governing body and then chosen by Council.
Additionally, there are six permanent private halls that nevertheless maintain their religious identity today despite having been created by several Christian denominations.
32 of the colleges and permanent private halls admit undergraduates. While Harris Manchester College is the only institution specifically for senior students, mature applicants are accepted by other colleges.
On the steps of Merton College, students were seated.
Only postgraduate students are admitted to Campion Hall, Green Templeton, Kellogg, Linacre, Nuffield, Reuben, St Antony’s, St Cross, and Wolfson Colleges. Unlike other Oxford colleges, All Souls does not have any student members; all members, with the exception of the Warden, are Fellows.
The oldest colleges are University, Balliol, and Merton, which date back to the 13th century.
The University’s newest colleges are Green Templeton, which was founded in 2008 through the merging of Green and Templeton Colleges, and Reuben College, which was established by the University in 2019.
Please review our information on colleges for prospective undergraduates if you are interested in studying at Oxford for your undergraduate degree.
