Twitter user CryptoVinco convincingly alleged that Bitcoin maximalist Michael Saylor is the whale behind the movement of over 200,000 BTC to Coinbase back in July. He claimed that Michael Saylor was planning to sell all the transferred tokens.

Bitcoin loses $19k as $100M is liquidated in less than 4 hours

The sharp decline in BTC price below $19,000 on Sept. 6 saw over $100 million in Bitcoin liquidation within four hours, according to Coinglass data.

The ripple effect on the market was that about 100,000 traders reportedly lost over $407 million in the total daily liquidations.

Circle CEO says Binance decision to stop USDC support is good as it increases utility

Circe CEO Jeremy Allaire threw his weight in support of Binance’s move to convert users’ USDC holdings to BUSD. He said the decision was consistent with the converged dollar book model obtainable in leading exchanges like FTX and Coinbase.

Wintermute’s Gaevoy added that using a converged will make the market more liquid and easier for users to deposit and withdraw USDC from the platform.

Bellatrix upgrade goes live, sets stage for Ethereum’s Merge

Bellatrix, the first step towards the Merge was successfully activated today. The upgrade was triggered on the consensus layer by 73% of Ethereum nodes.

With a successful execution of the Bellatrix upgrade, the community is preparing for the Paris upgrade, which will mark the end of proof-of-work mining on Ethereum and usher in the Merge.

Bitcoin exchange inflows sink to multi-year lows

Bitcoin’s exchange flow metrics analyzed by CryptoSlate reveal that there is an overall decline in both inflows and outflows, though inflows are rising higher, indicating that more investors are cashing out.

CryptoSlate also considered the exchange heatmaps, which track total transfer volumes deposited and withdrawn from exchanges.

The exchange inflow heatmap shows high inflow volume during the bull market peak of December 2020, March 2021, and November 2021. Similarly, the exchange outflows peaked in the same period.

The analysis reveals that during bull market peaks, short-term holders bought Bitcoin while long-term holders were cashing out.

DBS CEO Piyush Gupta said the leading bank is working to extend its cryptocurrency services to over 300,000 investors across Asia, according to the Financial Times.

Reversing the trend of the past three days, the cryptocurrency market saw $15.3 billion flow out over the past 24 hours, according to CryptoSlate data. As a result, the total crypto market cap dropped to $956.27 billion as of press time.

Bitcoin’s (BTC) market cap declined to $382.97 billion from $387.11 billion the previous day. The market cap of Ethereum (ETH) fell to $166.42 billion at the time of writing.

Following the lead of Bitcoin and Ethereum, the top ten cryptocurrencies are all in the red over the past 24 hours. Binance’s BNB saw the steepest decline at 3.82% followed by Dogecoin (DOGE), which dropped by 3.53%.

The market cap of USD Coin (USDC) continued its steady downward climb, dropping to $46.15 billion at press time. The market cap of Tether (USDT) and BinanceUSD (BUSD) remained firmly steady during the period at $68.22 billion and $21.04 billion, respectively.

Bitcoin

BTC price fell 1.69% over the past 24 hours, retreating below the $20,000 resistance level — it was trading at $19,975 at press time. Bitcoin’s market dominance dropped slightly to 40% over the past day.

BTC price traded with a downward bias throughout the past 24 hours, struggling to stay above $20,000. At around 20:00 UTC, BTC price finally receded below $20,000, although it recovered slightly around 02:00 UTC, only to fall further down again.

Ethereum

ETH price declined 1.21% over the past 24 hours to trade at around $1,355 at press time. However, the token’s market dominance increased marginally to 17.4% during the period, according to CryptoSlate data.

ETH price saw high volatility over the past day, with several steep dips. However, like Bitcoin, it traded with a downward bias, going as low as $1,350 during the period. The token set a 24-hour high price at $1,370 at around 14:00 UTC.

DESO bagged the most significant gains of the day at 23.81% to trade at around $17.48. The token is up 183.2% for the month, and its market cap stood at $155.31 million at the time of writing.

The price of CSPR increased 12.95% over the past 24 hours — the token was trading at $0.03 at press time. Casper’s market cap stood at $371.22 million. The token is up 31.95% over the past 30 days.

Crypto lender Celsius filed for bankruptcy in July and is set to auction its assets later this month. FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried said earlier this week that the firm will pay “fair market value” for Celsius’ assets. But Celsius users may be in for a long wait since the firm’s corporate structure, which was changed earlier this year, prioritizes shareholders over users regarding returning assets in the case of a bankruptcy.

South Korea tightens circle on Do Kwon, arrests his aide

Terraform Labs founder Do Kwon’s aide Yoo Mo became the first person to be arrested in the ongoing Terra-Luna investigation. Mo was the Head of General Affairs at Terraform Labs and got arrested on Oct. 6, one day after South Korean authorities released an arrest warrant on Oct. 5.

In the meantime, South Korea issued a separate warrant requesting Kwon to hand in his passport within 14 days. If he fails to do so, his passport will be invalidated by the authorities.

South Korean court dismisses arrest warrant for Do Kwon’s aide

Nearly 12 hours after Mo’s arrest, local news sources reported that a South Korean District Court has denied the arrest warrant against Mo. The initial arrest warrant wanted Mo handcuffed for violating the Capital Market Act.

However, the deciding Judge Jin-Pyo argued that LUNA hadn’t been classified as a security, which meant that Mo may not have violated the Capital Market Act.

EU narrows Russia’s options further with crypto sanctions

The European Union (EU) announced a new set of sanctions that banned all crypto asset wallets, accounts, or custody services belonging to Russian users.

Previous sanctions allowed the above services to operate if they held funds lower than €10,000.

Number of active Ethereum users increased 36% in Q3 despite bear market

Ethereum (ETH) gained more than 4.5 million new active users during the third quarter of 2022, as the data from Dune Analytics indicates. This increase equates to a 36% growth in the active user base.

According to data from DappRadar, Decentraland only has 30 daily active users despite its $1.2 billion valuation.

 Ripple slams SEC for opposing amicus briefs, XRP up 3.6%

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) got publicly criticized by Ripple over its opposing standing to the amicus briefs filed by I-Remit and TapJets. The “slam” was publicized on Twitter by the defense lawyer James Filan.

Following this, Ripple’s native token XRP recorded an increase of 3.6% over the last 24 hours.

Marathon Digital invested over $30 million in bankrupt Compute North

Bitcoin mining company Marathon Digital revealed its investments. The firm said it invested $10 million in convertible preferred stock and another $21.3 million in unsecured senior promissory notes in Compute North.

The announcement also disclosed that Marathon held 10,670 Bitcoins, which roughly equates to $207.3 million at the current prices.

Tuttle Capital files Inverse ETFs to trade against Jim Cramer’s recommendations

Tuttle Capital filed two ETFs to invest at the opposite position of any stocks recommended by the Mad Money host Jim Cramer.

Jim Cramer is known for his contradicting investment strategy, which often proved him wrong in crypto. The most recent example came in July when Cramer said he was selling all his Bitcoin after the market cap fell below $1 trillion. He said Bitcoin had no real value. Even though the topic of sanctions is hot after the OFAC’s ban on Tornado Cash, Bitcoin SV claims that Blacklish Manager can be used to freeze lost or stolen tokens or to “comply with court orders.”

Calls mount for Louisiana state to buy Bitcoin following BlackRock divestment

Louisiana State announced pulling around $794 million from BlackRock in relation to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Upon the announcement, Bitcoin maximalists called for the State Treasury to buy Bitcoin.

SEC opposes third parties seeking to prove utility of Ripple blockchain

Two firms I-Remit and Tapjets had filed a motion seeking to submit their amicus briefing to prove the utility of XRP beyond speculation.

The SEC opposed the motion on the grounds that the court’s prior order prohibits third parties from interfering in the case. The commission also alleged that Ripple may have influenced the proposed evidence.

Do Kwon deems news of $40M crypto freeze a ‘falsehood’

Reports emerged earlier today that South Korean prosecutors have frozen around $40 million linked to Do Kwon from crypto exchanges, KuCoin and OKX.

Do Kwon described the news as “spreading falsehood” claiming that he does not have any account with KuCoin and OKX.

GMX DEX spikes 35% as Binance, FTX announce listing

Leading crypto exchanges Binance and FTX opened trading for the native token of decentralized exchange GMX (GMX) on Oct. 5.

Russia blocks crypto exchange OKX without disclosing reason

Russian authority has reportedly blacklisted crypto exchange OKX’s IP address (okx.com) for allegedly violating article 15.3 of the federal law, which may be related to extremist activities.

Similar to Binance’s IP ban in June 2021, OKX may move to file a lawsuit against Russia’s internet censorship agency to know the exact reason and possibly get the ban lifted.

Bitcoin briefly trades above $20k as traders ape into futures

Bullish sentiment seems to be returning to the market as leverage traders push BTC futures trading volume to an all-time high.

Traders used  USD/stablecoins as leverage in the futures open contracts to pump BTC price above the $20,000 mark, however, it was rejected around the $20,400 level.

Bitcoin outperforms traditional crypto stocks in 2022 by up to 22%

Despite shedding off over 56% of its gain since January 2022, Bitcoin has outperformed crypto-related stocks.

Coinbase stocks are down 76%, Block is down 62% and MicroStrategy stocks have lost up to 58%. Overall, traditional crypto stocks have underperformed by over 74% and lost about three times more than the S&P500 year-to-date.

Nexo co-founders address recent cease and desist orders from US state regulators

Regulators in California had earlier filed a cease and desist order against Nexus over its Earn Interest Products.

Nexo co-founders Trenchev and Kalin Metodiev during an AMA session said the company was complying with the regulators, it has placed required restrictions on its earn offerings to protect users’ funds.

SWIFT shows CBDCs, tokenized assets can be integrated into global financial system

Global financial messaging provider SWIFT performed two experiments to prove that CBDC and tokenized assets could be seamlessly integrated into the existing financial system.

SWIFT developed an infrastructure that successfully facilitated CBDC-to-CBDC and fiat-to-CBDC transactions.

The platform also provided an interoperability system for different tokenization platforms to create, transfer and redeem tokenized assets.

Web3 ecosystem lost over $428M to hacks, scams in Q3 – Immunefi

Immunefi’s latest crypto losses report revealed that the web3 ecosystem lost over $428.7 million to 39 exploits in the third quarter of 2022.

The much-lauded Nomad  Bridge and Wintermute hacks account for 79.85% ($350 million) of all losses reviewed over the period.

Approximately $93.8 million, representing 4% of total losses were recovered by the affected projects.

DeFiYield REKT list reveals 18% decrease in lost DeFi funds during September totaling $170M

According to REXT database, the DeFi ecosystem has lost over $60 billion across 1,195 events, with $2.4 billion recovered so far in 2022.

About $170 million was lost in September alone, representing an 18% decrease from the previous month. The Wintermute hack accounted for $160 million, while $977,550 was lost to the profanity vanity address exploit.

Bitcoin mining pool Poolin in distress following liquidity crisis

Worsening liquidity issues caused Bitcoin mining pool Poolin to suspend withdrawals, trades, and transfers since Sept. 6.
